about
In May 2002 I was made a fellow of the National Endowment for Science, Technology and the Arts. My mission over the next four years is to develop innovative and practical uses of interactive/multimedia technologies to support a variety of learning environments. The project will exploit digital technologies in multi modal capacities to transform teaching and learning by bringing together an understanding of creative education with multimedia art forms.
Prior to my fellowship from 1998 to 2001 I have worked as a freelance web developer (working mostly in the education sector) and digital arts tutor. I have developed a range of websites and online learning environments for various clients including Moving Words (Open University) which was shortlisted for a BETT award, and the New Opportunity Fund approved OnlineLiteracy website which was commisioned by the Centre for Language in Primary Education. Other commercial work includes producing music for digital television and video editing for CD-ROM and WebTV.
Over the last seven years I have taught Digital Arts to 14-25 year olds at WAC Performing Arts and Media College as well as acting as a consultant on various courses including setting up an internet radio station for young people.
In 1996 I completed a B.A. (Hons) in Media Production (2:1) at Bournemouth University where I specialized in video directing and non-linear video editing. I also completed work placements at Channel Four and The London Studios. My final dissertation looked at Children's views on Television regulation.
I have written for numerous publications on topics such as online communities in education, digital content rights, and how digital technology can support learning.
I'm a co-founder of stage4, a web site dedicated to news and comment on arts and technology and a regular independent webcaster.
I also recently joined the Digital Content Forum's Industry Action Group for Digital Learning, and in 2004 was appointed as a governor for the University of East London.
Last year I started production on my debut feature documentary titled In Search of the Valley, a personal interpretation of Silicon Valley.
When not working I like to produce electronic music and other digital art in my dedicated multimedia studio. To get away from technology I follow Tottenham Hotspur Football club.
